As an IBM-PC user since it's release in 1981 and the System Operator of The Consultants' Exchange BBS, I have been looking for a long time for a program that would allow me to exit an application program and access the DOS functions. I'm happy to report, that FINALLY, that program has been written.
HOTDOS is a professionally written resident program that operates with virtually all of the many IBM-PC system configurations. If you have two monitors, it takes full advantage of them. Now you can be in the middle of running a program, and at the touch of a key you can exit to DOS and run another program or use any of the DOS commands, and when finished, exit right back into your original program and continue what you were doing. How many times have you been editing a file and wanted to look at another one? You had to Quit your editor; Type the file; then, re-load your editor. Now, with HotDOS, all you do is hit the hot-key; look at the file; then type Exit, and bang, you're back editing again. You save a lot of key-strokes and time loading and quitting programs.
The version of HotDOS in this archive is completely functional, so you can get accustomed to having DOS immediately available.
Once you start using it, I'm sure you'll want to get the full implementation. I'm using it now, it works flawlessly. I don't know how we ever did without it.
